This is a wonderful looking untouched original Confederate cavalry saber! This is the very distinctive pattern that was made by the Confederate States Armory at Kenansville, North Carolina. The company was owned by Louis Froelich but he named the Company the Confederate States Armory which sounded more official. This is the early production of the pattern is illustrated on page #45 of the Photographic Supplement to Albaugh's book on Confederate Swords. It has a great ancient look all over. The blade is full-length at 30 1/2  inches and you can see that along the edge it has some nicks to the metal where it went blade to blade in action. The blade has a wonderful untouched patina and you can see some of the southern casting flaws. The guard and the pommel cap are what make a Kenansville sword stand out from the rest. They have the smooth sides pommel cap and the guard has the point to the top of the guard. On the top of the pommel cap it has the initials "BM" scratched into the brass. On the handle of the sword it has a tarred canvas which is original intact and it has a great double twist wire wrapping holding it in place.
