Heavy blue wool Classic Cavalry greatcoat with attached 7-button cape, 2 buttons missing. Excellent condition with some expected staining and slight age mothing. Fantastic coat combined with Battlefield recovered
U.S. Model 1840 Heavy Cavalry Saber and Regulation 1858 Canteen. Saber presents
41 1/2'' overall, 36'' curved single-edged blade with a trailing point, wide stopped fullers and narrow partial unstopped fullers. The Ricasso is marked ''US / NW'' on the obverse and dated ''1846'' on the reverse, each softened at the edges with partial loss of some characters; there are no visible signs of a maker's mark. The blade has an overall bright surface with some clouds of burnished smoky gray. The leather washer is curiously shaped in a flower petal pattern; it is almost certainly not factory original but shows typical age wear and may be a period replacement. The brass surfaces of the hilt are toned to a soft burnished ocher brown and shows no more than minimal handling marks. The black leather grip is excellent aside from light expected age wear and the twisted brass wire binding shows only light tarnish and some small instances of verdigris. The steel scabbard is dark brown with subtle areas mottled to darker tone by cleaned remnants of light oxidation. The steel body shows no dings, dents or deformations. Overall the sword is in very good condition as found Likely carried through both the Mexican-American War and U.S. Civil War, this piece will make a nice acquisition for the upstart collector.
